Q: Is it allowed to use a balm on the lips while fasting?

A: In principle it is permissible to use a balm externally on the lips. However, if there is a strong possibility of it some part of it being ingested and the applied going down the throat (e.g. a person being in the habit of licking his lips) then it will be undesirable to use. If the applied substance goes down the throat, then the fast will break. It is preferable to apply it after Iftar.
